Notable Figures

The list of Notable Figures which will be covered in the Romanticism resource is rich and varied. In literary terms it will cover the traditional 'big six' Romantic poets (William Wordsworth, S. T. Coleridge, William Blake, Lord Byron, P. B. Shelley, and John Keats), the key female poets of the age (Mary Robinson, Felicia Hemans, Charlotte Smith, Letitia Elizabeth Landon and many others), a remarkable number of significant novelists (Maria Edgeworth, Jane Austen, Sir Walter Scott, Mary Shelley, and more)  essayists (Leigh Hunt, Charles Lamb, William Hazlitt, John Wilson, and Thomas De Quincey) and dramatists (such as Joanna Baillie).

Here poets and novelists, gothic storytellers, philosophers, journalists, editors, artists, and composers sit alongside important historical figures, politicians, religious visionaries, scientists, and inventors, in testimony to the rich and diverse culture of the age.
